Week 11: Class Highlights

I think this class is funny and I really learn a lot from this class.
The funniest part is the last two lessons - TV production. I was one of the three ''cameras'' and I really love holding this camera. The whole process was enjoyable and pleasurable.
And the movie Bowling for Columbine is really a meaningful movie. The incident about a nine-year-old boy shot a six-year-old girl is really a shock to me.

Madia Law or media ethics case from 209 involving one or more of the First Amendmant/censorship: According to the First Amendment national survey 2009, most Americans support that free press should be the watchdog of the government, and television is still the dominant source of Americans on major news.

Brief Comments: I agree the idea of a free press as a watchdog on the government, because there should be someone keep a watchful eye on the government.

week 9: Propaganda in Advertising/PR

I propose a PR campaign for a positive value - wear seatbelt.
I would like to use slogan such as "wear seatbelt is smart" to promote this campaign, bacause slogan is a brief phrase that makes people easy to understand and remember.
I would also like to say that there are many people died in accidents because they did not wear seatbelts. This is a half-truth statement that scare people that they must wear seatbelts.

week 7: Internet

There are 11731 sites that are listed.
I have heard of Facebook, Twitter, Myspace and Xanga.
I did not know Talenthouse.
Talenthouse is a global social working website that addresses artists working in music, film, fashion, art and their supporters. Talenthouse hosts competitions and artists can can also connect to each other through this website.
I use the social networking website-Facebook everyday. It really helps me a lot because I use it to contact my friends who are not in the same college with me now. I remember once when I used my Facebook, I saw a person that i knew before and I immediately added him as my friend, since then, we started contact each other.

week 5: Movies or Recordings

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was my favorite movie of 2009.
I first saw it from a megazine advertisement and I watched it in cinema.
I like this movie because I love reading this book and I think this story is exciting. Also, the actors and actresses of this movie did a good job and the special effects make the "magic world" realistic.

week 3: Books

There are three books which influenced me a lot - Harry Potter, Twilight and The Call Of The Wild.
Harry Potter is an extremely popular series, and it is also the first english book i've ever read. It is about the magic world and it is an exciting and marvelous story.
Twilight is a romance and it is a love story between a vampire and a human girl. I finished reading it within a day because it is really fascinating.
The Call Of The Wild is about a dog named Buck and his life of being a member of a dog sled team. This book is not only about dog, but also humanity. It's really a great book that worth reading.

week 2: media impact

I would like to propose a media research project about the effect of internet - "How internet affect teens?'' Nowadays, internet is essential, and it is extremely important to teens especially. However, not anything in internet is good for teens, some sources are even harmful to them. So, I would like to see how these harmful informations from internet would affect teenagers. I hypothesize that teens are deeply affected by these harmful informations, because there are many sources about violence and drugs etc in internet. I would like to use the survey method to to test whether my hypothesis is correct or not, for examples asking teens "are there any bullying in your campas?" or "do you know anyone take drugs?" I believe many teens are deeply affected by internet.

first post :)

this is my first post :)
today i want to talk about my relationship with mass media.

i love reading very much, especially novels, but those novels i read are mostly in chinese, coz my mother language is chinese. i love reading all kinds of novels, like thrilling novels, romance and adventurous stories. sometimes i can just stay at home and read books without doing any other things.

before coming to US, i read printed newpapers every morning, because it's common in my country, and it's easy to buy newspapers there. but after coming here, i read online news instead of printed ones.

actually i just read stylish japanese magazines like vivi because i'm interested in japanese fashion, i love collecting vivi magazines.

i love watching movies, especially comedies or scary movies. i love hanging out with my friends and go to cinema to watch a movie or two.

actually i seldom made recordings or listened to radios, coz i'm not interested in these 2 categories.

i love watching tv, and i love the series gossip girl and project runway very much. i love staying at home all day and watch these episodes.

last but not least, i love browsing internet. i think all teens love internet very much and it is the most useful medium for people to search for informations or keep in touch with friends. recently facebook is very popular and everyone has a facebook account to connect with friends, it shows how internet is important nowadays.
